How To Get Through Being Homesick!!

When it comes to being away from home... I've got a few tips and tricks.

1. Utilize FaceTime. It's an awesome thing and even though it's not as good as actually being with people, its as close as you're going to get.

2. Stay busy. I find for myself personally working out 4-5 times a week really helps me stay busy and motivated.

3. Plan when you're going to be home next. If there's a date set you can count down and have that to look forward to.

4. Write letters. Writing letters and receiving letters from people you miss at home can be really nice.

5. Talk about it with people who are feeling the same way. There are likely so many people in the same position as you. Talk about it. Having said this, don't obsess over it with them because that will only make it worse.

6. Being homesick is okay. It is very normal for young people but also anyone. Just know that when you do finally get home with the people you miss it will be really special and very worth it.

7. This one sounds silly but Treat Yourself. Sometimes even just buying yourself a cappuccino or going for a nice meal can help give you that extra boost to get through it.

8. My last tip is to just try to make the best out of whatever situation you are in. You may look back and wish you were where you currently are.

Five Things I Wish I Knew Going Into First Year University!!

As summer comes to an end, it's time for all the students to prepare for the next year of studies! I'm going into my second year and really looking forward to it! I've created a list of five things I wish I knew before going into first year university. This list is purely created based on experience. Feel free to share with anyone you know heading off to post secondary education as it may not only apply to first years! I live in Vancouver and go to school in Ontario so this list may be a little biased for the people who are leaving home as that is my experience! Nonetheless, I hope you enjoy and I hope this helps you in some way!

1. FACETIME is a life changer and when you're away from your family and friends it can at times be the only thing that gets you through the inevitable home sick days so USE it.
2. Organize yourself BEFORE school starts. This could include an agenda, making sure your room is organized, creating a workout schedule, etc.
3. Even though university…

RYU Fall Launch & Mental Health Awareness Day Campaign!!

RYU dropped some new stuff for fall and I've been loving it so I thought I'd share! Their brand is all about respecting yourself, others, and the universe! As I've mentioned before on my blog, Respect Your Universe is an urban athletic apparel company created and based in Vancouver! I've been an RYU Campus Connector for almost a year and it has definitely made me feel like I'm a part of something bigger! Go check out RYU at their four locations in the Vancouver area (Robson, West fourth, West Van, and Metrotown) or on their website @ www.ryu.com to get some gear and represent Respect Your Universe with me! The staff and everyone involved in RYU are all super motivating and supportive people and I'm super lucky to be involved with such a cool company!

RYU has a mental health awareness campaign for the month of November. "We're all fighting battles others know nothing about. Today is World Mental Health Day - If you're struggling with he pressures of…
